I do more than just portrait photography; this morning, I had a philosophical realization about how connected everything is—or perhaps what it is that truly draws me to my work.
The project I’ve been working on is an ongoing one called Sandscapes. Here, I photograph the sand and show how natural elements—such as wind and water—and external factors, like tractors cleaning the beach, leave temporary patterns and textures in the sand. These designs will fade or disappear (quite quickly) over time.
This organic play of continuous changes—the interaction between texture, time, light, and shadow—is what interests me.
While this natural process is inherently slow, it reminds me of portraiture. During a single portrait session, expressions and mood, combined with the careful use of light, achieve a similar sense of depth and change in just one moment.
